Ernest Bloch is een van die componisten die bijna alleen bekend zijn vanwege één wereldsucces: Schelomo, die weemoedige Joodse melodie voor cello en orkest werd zo succesvol en is vertegenwoordigd op honderden klassieke compilaties, zodat Bloch voor velen in één hoek zit: Zwitserse laatromanticus met Hebreeuwse invloed. Maar dat Bloch, vooral in zijn tijd in de USA, belangrijke werken heeft bijgedragen aan het muziekmodernisme, dat hij niet voortdurend Joodse melodieën de wereld in heeft geholpen en dat hij een componist van formaat is, dat laat dit geweldige album horen in de perfecte vertolking van Raphael Wallfisch, die ook door zijn familie-achtergrond voorbestemd lijkt te zijn voor dit album. Een echte droomcombinatie!
